We’re delighted to announce that we’re planning to open a Squirrel Scouts – Scouts for four and five year olds. Over the next 12 months we’ll be planning what, where and when we’ll open. We’re not the only group opening this newest branch of our family tree. Across the UK The Scouts are starting more Squirrels in more areas when the time’s right.
Following a successful pilot programme, we’re now inviting four and five-year-olds to partake in Scouting activities, such as achieving badges, enjoying outdoor adventures and making new friends. You can join the interest list by visiting the Join page and completing the joining form. We’re particularly keen to welcome families from communities most affected by the pandemic as well as Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
We’re also calling for more volunteers to support us to deliver Squirrels (or Beavers/Cubs/Scouts/Explorers!). If you can help lend a hand please get in touch with us by visiting our Contact page.
Squirrels (or Early Years Scouts) are young people aged 4–6 who:-
- Master new skills and try new things
- Have fun and go on adventures
- Make new friends
- Are curious about the world around them
- Help others and make a difference, on their own doorsteps and beyond
Every week, they gather in groups called Dreys to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way. For more details about the Squirrels head to scouts.org.uk/squirrels
In the next twelve months we plan to have one Squirrel Drey. The current planning is for them to meet at Farnsfield Village Centre, New Hill, Farnsfield, Newark, Nottinghamshire. NG22 8JN on Monday or Thursday 5.00pm-6.00pm (or after school).
